I wish there was a 'save as' under file, because I understand that.. as itis, how do I save an actual copy as jpg or tiff into a folder on the HD?

when I click export it gives a a dialogue which says 'Lightroom Burned Exports'.. I don't want to burn it.. ???

You didn't explore that Export Dialog very far. It is highly configurable and with user configurable presets. Look further under the drop down that says 'Lightroom Burned Exports'. You can export to a Mail Client, to a folder or other Apps You set-up for in the Post Processing Section, bottom of the Dialog.

Take another look!

Ok I will. It scared me off with the "Lightroom Burned exports' - I was worried it would start trying to burn it rather than anything else - I get a bit overwhelmed and panicky sometimes!:?;) when I read these options..
-Burning full sized jpgs ( don't want to burn so not that one)
-Export to DNG ( nope don't want to do that)
- for email ( nope..)

I thought that was it! i.e. I thought I had to do one of those..
Im still not sure whether to put it in a sub folder that says 'burned' because they are not 'burned' or are they? ( is that the new term for it - I have no idea)

Even in burn mode, it can't do anything till you say so and you would have to have a disc already in turn burn!

It worries me that I'll get in one of those infinite loops wher the computer says 'oi your supposed to be doing this!' and I'm yelling at it ' but I want to be doing this!'

Is there a 'relate' counselling service for computer relationsships?

LOL

Ok, forget the presets, and just look at the options and change them to your heart's content - and when you come up with options which work for you, save them as presets.

just tried a few saves as ...oops I mean exports as... jpgs and opened them after in photoshop but they all seem to have banding in the sky which wasnt obvious in LR - saved at 1''% quality.. (or an an old French business associate would say.. "some very quality")

although.. when viewd in LR at 'fit' size it did lok very noisy in the sky.. but not at 1:1

but yes thanks.. I will no doubt eventually make some presets of my very own:-)

What colour space did you use?

And do you have Photoshop set to use the same colour space?

Ok, from the top then....

This bit here in Lightroom's export dialog:
export-2''7'7'4-'75'13.jpg

should match this bit here in Photoshop's colour settings (Edit > Color Settings):
color_settings-2''7'7'4-'8143'.jpg

Please note I'm not saying there that sRGB is the best choice... that's a whole nother debate... but just that they should match otherwise they'll look different.

Hi Victoria, thanks for that but I was 'coughing' because I felt stoopid at having forgotten the flipping obvious! However... not so stoppid now I see all the myriad options!

Can you explainfor me the place prefs>external editing has in the scheme of things in relation to the LR export dialogue that comes up , which I would have expected to take the prefs>external editing into account , but it doesn't seem to. In the LR prefs.external editing , I have it set there to TIFF, 16bit,ProPhoto, but I dont understand how that relates to the export dialogue which has completely different settings? -maybe it does but can you explain how?

Atthe moment (default presumably) photoshop has in colour settings the 'north america general purpose' and sRGB was the setting, so as I saved thatlast jpg as sRGB there shouldn't have been a problem anywahy presumably.

Ok, the Prefs > External Editing is used with you right click and choose Edit with...

The settings you set in the Export dialog affect anything you export via the Export dialog.

Either way, you probably want them all to match. And use the PS settings marked in the blue box - it'll minimize confusion as it'll ask you what to do when it finds a file that doesn't match.

There are the rights and wrongs of colour management, and I don't usually recommend sRGB for anything other than screen use, but for the moment, let's go the simple route and choose sRGB on everything. Once you've got your head round that bit, we can go further. Sound ok?

Thanks that sounds ok but I think actually I have already (mostly) got my head around colour spaces and management as I have read a lot on it , over and over! And in the main I understand how photoshop works ( for a photographers POV) even if I don't know where everything is... however.. it takes me a long time to get my head round something new..ie.. LR, I don't know why, it just does, I guess I have enttered phogiedom!

I don't menat to be funny when I say that as soon as I look at a screen I find I have trouble concentrating on what it was I was trying to do, this is why I seem to forget how to do things from one minute to the next nad make daft mistakes, but Im sure with more familairisation it will stick.

Any road up, I undersatnd eactly what you're saying above, I sem to have got my head round that particular bit in record time, so thanks for the explanation! (again):cheesy:
