When I import images, either from disk or CF card (I'm using LR2), I enter the keywords I want BUT another set of keywords keep being included (same keywords every time, 3 to be exact), along with the keywords I enter :frown:

Its not really a big problem, as its easy to fix (just delete the reappearing keywords), but its REALLY annoying - anybody have any suggestions :?

That's because they are still listed in the Keywording text box of your import Dialog. I have done this as well. Clear the keywords there or change them each time you import and this wont happen.

And Welcome to our Forum!

Don, I wish it were that simple ;) but that is/was the first thing I check when I do an Import.

I made doubly sure today when I was importing from a CF card that the Keywords field was all clear before I entered the ones I wanted for the import, but same result - the new keywords I entered plus the 3 'repeats' as usual

Are they in your Metadata Preset? LR2 now recognizes keywords as metadata in Metadata Presets or Sync.

John - just checked my Metadata presets and there's no problem there. I did a little 'testing' and the problem (ie recurring keywords) does not happen if I don't enter any keywords on import, but as soon as I enter a new (or old) keyword, the problem returns.

What about synonyms? You got any of those set up?

John

The three words are Sam (my daughter), Abbotsleigh (her school) and Year 11 (her grade) and all three words appear in the Panel List.

When you edit a keyword, you can add synonyms.

Which panel list do you mean?

John

That's an odd one for sure. I wonder what would happen if you replaced your preference file? Do you know the steps for that? Add your OS to your signature and we can help direct you accordingly.

Breaking in here, and sorry to be such a newbie (!) ... but where can I edit my signature line? Couldn't find it. Thanks in advance.

John - thanks for the heads up on 'synonyms' and I did a bit of online digging and it doesn't appear that they are the problem.

The Panel List I was referring to was the Keyword Panel List

Hi Guys

Jumping in here but I found almost exactly the same problem accept it seems to only happen to files that have previously had metadata applied in Bridge. Completely new files imported direct from a card are ok. I have thoroughly checked that I have no metadata templates or keywords applied on import and yet I have the same four keywords being added to every image in addition to the keywords previously applied in Bridge. Infact in some cases there were no keywords in Bridge, just other metadata. I have no synonyms and I can't see any 'nesting' issue - these are keywords being bizarrely applied on import and then showing up as ready to be exported too. I have just upgraded from L1 to 2 and before I even started I ran the patch script to sort out the metadata export problem that has been widely covered. Any suggestions?

Just a quick update.

Did a bit of 'experimenting' and deleted all the Keywords from the Keyword set, left all the spaces blank and then saved that as the new preset.

Have imported many images since then and the 'problem' has never re-occurred

I'm having the same problem. All the keywords that were entered for a shoot Import two weeks ago appear in all images files of a new Import.

Something is set to make them a static set for entry in every new image, but I can't find where it is to turn it off.

I'm still having this problem solid. When I import a new shoot folder, every image in the that shoot gets the keywords from a a shoot that was 14 imports ago.

An earlier message in this thread suggested making an EMPTY Keyword Set, which I've done, but the problem still exists.

I enter new keywords in the keyword entry dialog box when doing the Import. There are no old keywords left in the box unless they are invisible.

I don't have any synonyms (to my knowledge), but my understanding is that synonyms don't appear in any records until a file is exported. I'm seeing these keywords from an old shoot on every image in every import.

The keywords are in my Keyword List: 3rd Hole, bunker, course, golf, golf course, green, Hole 3, links, PACC, Princess Anne Country Club, sandtrap, trap, Virginia Beach, Virginia, VA. There are lots of other shoot folders which use those keywords, not just the one 14 shoots ago.

I've checked Martin Evening's book front to back and can't find any reference to keywords that repeat on every Import.

Okay, how about you try this. Start LR2 with an Option Click so you get the Choose Catalog Dialog. Start a new Catalog. Under Menu/Edit/Import from Catalog, import your old catalog.

Does the newly created catalog stiff exhibit this behavior. Don't trash the old Catalog, some one on the LR team may want to look at it, eventually.

johnbeardy,

YES!

My Import problem with "keywords that wouldn't go away" is solved. The keywords from a shoot a month ago had gotten into my 2''8 Metadata Preset.

Thank you!
