When I go from LR develop to CS3 for editing, I close CS3 but I am not sure my changes are in the files when I look at them in lightroom. I am new to CS3 and not much more experenced in Lightroom.

How do I tell? (the changes are subtle) Are the files renamed?

If you choose Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments a new PSD file is created by LR and this is what is opened by PS. The default name of this file will be {Filename}-Edit.psd. In grid mode, choose one of these files that you have edited and the original it was made from and choose Compare View (press C). The two images are displayed side by side and you should be able to see any differences, zooming in if necessary.

You are saving the files in CS3? And making sure the files are saved with maximum compatibility checked?
