Round tripping from a NAS. Always generates a "Save As" in PS.

I am perplexed as to what is going on here.

I can send a file from Lightroom to Photoshop for further editing (my raw files are on the QNAP NAS, Lr catalog is on my internal SSD). When done in PS, the file will not save back to Lr. But rather PS prompts me with a Save As dialog.

If I do the same thing with a raw file that resides on the computer internal SSD, PS behaves normally and automatically saves a new tiff back to Lr.

Whats going on here? The only thing I haven't tried is moving my Lr catalog file to the QNAP. I dont believe the catalog file and image files have to be on the same drive.. or am I mistaken?

You are not mistaken, and it is even the opposite in this case: Lightroom can’t work with a catalog on a network drive. The reason why you get this dialog might be that Photoshop does not have permissions to write to a network volume. Make sure it is listed with these permissions in System Setings - Security & Privacy - Privacy - Files and folders.

Thanks for your reply John.... but alas, network drives were enabled. :(

Well... as it turned out, photoshop did not like writing back to my NAS's home directory. I created a new directory called nashome and all is well. I found this out in another post here by Victoria a couple years back.
