Having come from CS3 and using ACR, there was a little menu that controlled the saving of settings so each time you opened a new file you would get the same level of sharpening and noise reduction applied.

Using LR 2.3 i find it keeps reveerting back to the defaults and applying far more sharpening and noise reduction than i would like. is there a little toggle somewhere to control this aspect of my workflow?

Cheers.

You can create a preset that gets applied to photos upon Import, to move the settings to where you want (and this is not limited to just settings in the Detail portion, but can be applied to any portion of the develop module sliders). The same preset can be used retroactively to adjust already-imported files, if you wish.

If you need more instruction on how to create a preset, let us know.

Thanks, i think i am OK to set one up, it just seems odd because LR retains the other settings like Brightness, Contrast etc but doesn't retain sharpening and NR ..... little strange.

Definitely strange. Are you saying that you adjust some Detail sliders, and then if you shut down LR and restart it, the settings will be different?

On new images yes. So if I editthem on an image then re-open the changes are there but if I load a new image it deafults to something like 25 sharpening and 25 colour NR.

Ah, I see. Those are Lightroom's defaults.

If you hadn't been seeing those before, then either you were applying a Develop Preset at Import time that overrode those defaults, or you had changed the defaults and have since reverted to the original defaults.

If you don't normally apply a Develop preset on Import, then you should probably set LR's defaults the way you'd prefer.
