Restoring Lightroom

So a bit of a bad news that can be turned back into good news with a bit of help.

The bad news is that the hard drive I use to store photos decided to break down. Luckily I have been doing backups of both my catalogue and my photos. So I haven't lost anything. The hard drive has now reappeared but Lightroom seems to have lost the link to the photos. Instead of showing as D:2''8-'4-'9, D:2''8-'4-'9 etc (the D drive being my hard drive and all my photos being in date folders) all the folders are shoing under the F drive (which is my external backup drive) BUT the folders have a question mark over them. It seems I can right click and I get an option to find the missing folder, so I can point it back to the D drive, but is there a way to do this for all of the folders in one go or do I need to do each one individually.

Supplementery question - as my computer is clearly on the way oout I have now ordered a new computer. I can load Lightroom on to the new computer, and I can load the photos on to a new hard drive (I think I might use another external hard drive) but how do I link the two together so that everything is restored to normal on the new computer?

Glad it is not a sorry tale!!
I think you may well be stuck with the one at a time option. However when you have done this what you can do to alleviate this happening is to add a Top Level folder that contains all the others.
I use an "Images" folder for my top level and that contains Year folders which contain Year/Month folders which contain Year/Month/Day folders. This then means only relinking/locating the one top level folder.
You can easily do this by creating the folder on your drive with the OS and place a dummy file in it (along with the needed folders of course) and importing the dummy file to LR which will bring in the Top Level folder and all the other folders will now show in the correct place. You can then get rid of the dummy file or not as you choose.

Yep that is what happened to me!!
I found it easiest to import everything into LR and use sort by capture date and move files into dated folders. Then keywords and collections become most useful!!:lol::lol:
