This problem is obviously user error. My workflow is after a shoot I load the images on to a laptop. I then cull, keyword, and perform some development. I then export this series as a catalog to a portable hard drive, and then upload it to my desktop master catalog. I haven't been as disciplined as I should have been, and I'm now trying to resolve an issue. I was getting ready to remove files from my laptop but I thought I do a spot check before doing so, and I found a file that was on my laptop that wasn't in my master catalog. Rather than manually go through the file to identify differences I am considering exporting the laptop catalog again to the master to populate it with the missing file (s), but before doing this I want to make sure I don't import a second set of negatives. Does the "Do not import suspected duplicates" feature work on images imported from a catalog?

If it is only one or only a few images, why not select the image(s) in question and "Export as A Catalog" on just the selected image(s). This will avoid accidentally bring in duplicates or creating virtual copies Using the Import from Another Catalog will import the content of the other catalog and if the images already exists in the master catalog, the process will create virtual copies so that there is only one master file but two (or more) develop histories

Importing the original catalog from the Laptop will simply create virtual copies for all of the images on the "Import from Another Catalog" catalog.

If you know the date that the original "Import from Another Catalog" catalog was imported you can isolate the images for an image cout and compare both the Master catalog with the "Import from Another Catalog" catalog. to identify image files that might have missed being imported.

Thanks for the heads up on the virtual copies! The file is quite large but I have some synchonization software that should identify any differences between the two.
