Resetting Crop Custom Aspect Ratio

Hi, I'm new so I appologize if this has been discussed before... Two questions:
  1. Can you reset the Resetting Crop Custom Aspect Ratio?
  2. Or can you set Crop so it always select 8x1' rather than select from the drop down box>:roll:

Reset the crop custom aspect ratio as in set a new default? Not that I know of.

Easy solution... do a standard 8x1' crop, select all and sync - and then as you go through each image, it'll already be set to 8x1'. Will that work for you?

along the same topic...

I'm brand new and I cannot figure out how to set the aspect ratio. I watched the instructional video, and the tools for cropping, ratios, locking, etc. are not showing for me in lightroom. I'm using 1.3.1 - did these tools get moved somewhere else?

Try pressing "T" to display that toolbar. That might be what's wrong.
Make sure you're in develop module.


Or press "R" to acces the crop function directly, or select Menu > View > Crop

Victoria - I posted a question regarding synced crops failing upon adjustment. Have you run into this bug?

There are a couple of known bugs regarding the crop rectangle jumping back to a previous aspect ratio, not all of them involving sync.

Is the gist of the symptom that you grab a corner, and suddenly the aspect ratio changes back to an earlier setting?

If so, that's a known issue. But if you have a reliable way to recreate it, please post it so that we can ensure that it's not a new trigger.

(And just to check -- this is in version 2.3, right?)

Using the sides of the crops to adjust, instead of the corners, doesn't seem to trigger this bug (at least in my tests so far)

Victoria - If the initial crop is from a selection (say, 5x7) and unadjusted (in other words, you select 5x7 and then press return), it will sync with no problem in the synced images. If the 5x7 crop on the master image is then adjusted in any way off the bounds of the original image, then synced with another image and then adjusted by the corners, the synced crop will revert. I came upon that revelation yesterday as I was attempting to clearly define the bug.

Nice find Marty - if you use Quick Develop to select the crop ratio, it happens whether it's adjusted or not.
