Reset Settings when updating Metadata

I have being doing some reorganisation of my photo which involved adding items to the metadata in another application. Having done this I used the "Read Metadata from File" command which seemed to work fine.

However I now find that on all photos where I have read in metadata the photo has been up back to it's original setting with "Reset Settings" being the last item in the history of photo alterations.

Is there a way to stop this happening.

You need to write the existing metadata to the files (using Ctrl-S / Cmd-S) before you change them in other programs. If you then change them in other programs and read the metadata, you will be reading your Develop settings back too.
