'Contact sheet' question

I'm a teacher trying to print a contact sheet with pictures of all my new students. Of course I'd like to put their names under each photo as well, but I'm not really sure how to go about this. I suppose I could go back to the original folder, re-name all the files with the names of the students and then select 'Photo info' and 'file name'. It's just that all the files are RAW, so I can't see them to re-name them in Windows, meaning I have to open the Zoom Browser window alongside the window where the RAW files are stored and re-name them according to number. A bit tedious.

Something tells me there's a much, much simpler way of doing this. I'm intrigued by the 'Custom text' option, but that seems to put the same text under every photo, and unfortunately my students don't all have the same name.

Can anyone help me?

If you name each photo with the students name in develop module (under 'caption') then select 'caption' under photo info. in the print module this will enable you to print a contact sheet with individual names underneath. It won't actually rename the raw file - but willl give the contact sheet you need.

Look in the metadata panel Right-Hand Panel, in Library module. If you don't see Caption, make sure 'All' is selected in the Metadata dropdown. See attached:

Of course the dropdown 'metadata set' was set to default, so 'caption' was nowhere to be seen. I started seriously doubting my intelligence, but a quick search on the Adobe site gave me the info that Brad posted later.

Well, off I go then. Only 125 kids this year...
