Hello All,
Been reading this for a while. Just joined the group as I have a question. I have been using LR 2.5 for about a month. I am having an occasional quirk when renaming folders. I usually import by date. Then rename after import if needed. Sometimes after renaming the folder I get the little question mark on my folder. I go thru the find photo routine following the path/LR Photos here/2''9/folder date/ all of these are in the black letters indicating to me that all is well. But inside the folder where the pics are located all the jpegs are "grayed out" . If I click on the folder and hit choose, my problem does not go away. Still the question mark on my folder in LR. Now if I close LR and open right back up the question mark is gone and all is well. Again new to all this so maybe this is just the way it works?? Thanks for the input.

Welcome to Lightroom forums!

The way you did it, you may have to give it some time to update. Best thing to do to rename folders is by doing so WITHIN Lightroom. This way, the problem won't appear again and you won't have to relink.

Hi RSC, welcome to the forum!

Are you renaming folders within LR or in Finder?

Victoria,
Renaming within LightRoom only. One thing I've learned from books and blogs is to always manipulate things in LR only!!

I usually import by date. Then rename after import if needed. [/quote]

By the way, did you know that when in the Import dialog box where you see the suggested dated path to import to, if you double-click it, you can edit it right at Import time!

That's a weird one. So it gets renamed on the hard drive but not in the catalog? Or the other way round? And what are you renaming to? Any odd characters?

Victoria,
Just did an import. Happened again. Here is what I did. Imported photos. Clicked on folder to show in finder. Pics there in finder. Finder opens with my entire tree showing. Individual pics there, in "dark letters". Clicked on one can see it fine in preview/more info mode. Closed finder. Right clicked folder hit rename. LR icon in dock starts bouncing up and down. The renaming box did not pop up. Had to click the photo that was in the grid. Got the rename box after clicking photo, LR icon stopped bouncing. Renamed photo, no strange characters, in fact named it, WA Senior Group. Hit save, folder renamed but with question mark on folder. Right clicked find missing folder. Finder opens, but not the entire "tree". Have to click "LR photos here, 2''9, Folder itself, the individual pics show then but In Gray letters, can't click on one to see it. Get out of finder, close LR and reopen and TAAADAAA...question mark gone, all is well! Thanks, Scott

Figured this out. Just renamed a folder but selected all the photos in the filmstrip(CMD A) first. Then renamed. No question mark. I guess this is how I should have been doing this all along??

That's quite bizarre! No, you shouldn't need to select all the photos first. ! wonder if the bouncing icon is a clue though. I wonder what it's up to. Sounds like LR doesn't have focus at the time.
