Hello,

I have some online storage space, that I can access via web-dav. I'd like to use this as a Backup for my photos.

Unfortunately, this storage does not support 'unusual' characters in filenames (+, '(', &, ...) and the copy of such files/folders fails.

Now, there are tons of tools for renaming files with a Search&Replace. But if I do this with my files, I suppose LR will not find them anymore (ok, I could relocate them, but that's a pain, especially, if not the folders, but the files themselves need to be renamed...).

So, do you see any better option? I suppose there's no such plugin, is there?

Greetings,
Hendrik

Hi Hendrik,

I think there is a file rename option in LR, but I can not remember where it was....
Context menue of selected images in loupe view?????

The other way is to manipulate the DB directly. But this is "open heart surgery" and requires changes in several tabel inside the DB.

Yes fware is correct, Lr has a token/template based renaming tool. In Library Grid, select the files to be renamed, and

a) Press F2, or
b) Library menu > Library > Rename

which will open a dialog, where one can create fairly sophisticated naming templates, via
'Edit....' in the preset dropdown.

By renaming within Lr, you will avoid the 'reconnection' issue.

Hello Brad,

in fact, I knew the renaming function, but it didn't come to my mind, I could use it (because I was thinking in a box, i.e. 'I need to search&replace').
So, that'll work.

What remains is the folders, but I suppose it'll be ok to rename them by hand.

Thanks!

Greetings,
Hendrik
