relocating entire catalog to new drive

Using the finder in OSX I would like to copy the entire contents of my current firewire 4'' 'LR photographs' drive to a new larger external eSata DAS RAID and then change LR to point to this new drive. This will essentially keep everything intact and I can just pick up where I left off. Once I confirm that the the catalog and all the folders are there, I will then want to delete the current drive and use it for something else. What is the best step by step method for this? Thanks.

LR keeps files in several places.

1) The original image files
2) The LR catalog and preview cache
3) LR's preferences, presets, galleries etc.

Which of these are you planning to move? Reading between the lines above, I'm guessing just #1, possibly #1 and 2. Not likely 3.

If it's just #1, you may be better off doing it within LR.
