Question or Description of Problem: Using the gradient tool on a photo in LR classic leaves my file with a white cast where the gradient sits. The gradient runs from left to right, stopping at the rocks. Does anybody have an idea where it comes from? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Try pressing the O key? Might be the overlay, if you’re applying something like Exposure

Thanks Victoria, your reply made me look at the mask again, did not see any change with pushing O and 0 buttons, but accidently saw it was the dehaze filter all the way down. I had no idea that the haze adds a "haze". DOH... Thank you so much for your answer. ;o))

Excellent, well spotted
