Solved Topics

Since the earlier topic is locked and AFAIK still unanswered. I thought I would start this one? How Does one mark a topic as Solved or Answered?

I believe you will find the Mark Solved button near the bottom left of the page.

I'm still not finding this button...

To be solved...

As I came here for a problem I had fall 2''7, so I reached my 2''7-11-'2 topic titled "Profiling for consumer's websites" with the idea of marking it solved. A green check mark appeared on left and this is nice. But on the right, there was now a lock (that is OK) and an X !!!

I am very afraid that the whole topic will disappear if I click on X and won't try. Solved topics are the best of our database and should not be deleted!

I think it is only apparent to the one who started the topic. Note that it is not the same X as the one to delete a post at right of one's post but an X to delete the whole thread in the list of threads under a selected forum.

I am still convinced that even if someone started a thread, only Admins and Moderators should be able to delete a whole thread!

[/quote]I agree. If you start a thread and there is only your post, You should by virtue of deleting your own single post, delete the whole thread. But once others have posted, then only an admin/moderator should be able to delete the posts of others.

OK. I just made a fake thread here that Victoria was kind to reply to. Then I marked it [SOLVED] and came back to the list of threads under this forum. I clicked the X at right of the topic and got a warning dialog box saying "Are you sure you want to do this?" and clicked the OK button.

THE WHOLE THREAD DISAPPEARED :icon_exclaim:

And worse! It is not only Solved threads that a user can delete but any thread started by someone can be deleted by that person!

Fixed (I think). I changed the settings so that the first Post in a thread can not be deleted by the original poster, and the entire Thread can not be deleted by the original poster.

OK. Will test now in this forum with another dummy thread...

EDIT: Just made it and Ian replyed to it. Then there was no red X to click on and Ian will have to delete the thread himself as it should still work for him.
