Select Catalog - Startup Question

Hello,

When I select the LR catalog, it brings up the 'Select Catalog' Startup box which you can choose which LR catalog you want to load. Presently, I have 3 catalogs...my primary catalog, my wife's primary catalog and the my primary BACKUP catalog.

I want to remove the primary BACKUP catalog from the list in the 'Select Catalog' startup as I don't want to accidently select it and work on photos b/c I have a nightly scheduled backup which backs up my primary catalog on the 1st external drive to the primary BACKUP catalog on the 2nd external drive.

Is there any way to remove the primary BACKUP catalog from the list? It should be a simple fix but I can't find a way to remove it.

Any help would be appreciated and Happy 4th of July everyone!

Hi Nolan, sorry I didn't get to reply to your tweet earlier. Busy day!

The only way I can think of is to delete the preferences file, which will delete the contents of that whole list, amongst other things. Don't panic though - your image settings would still be safely in their catalog.

Yeah, sure.

Bear in mind that these are hidden locations on Windows, so you’ll need to turn go to Start menu > Control Panel > Folder Options > View > Advanced Settings and turn on ‘Show hidden files and folders’ in order to find them.

And I'd suggest moving the preferences file to another location, just in case you decide it's a pain setting up your View Options etc again, and want to put it back!

This resolution worked...however, I will see once the backup has been completed tonight to see if the primary BACKUP catalog reappears in the list tomorrow morning.

It shouldn't do, unless you open it at any stage, and then it would. In theory you could zip up the backup to make sure you don't accidentally open it, although I understand that this can cause problems restoring if there's any kind of corruption.
