Edits when on the road

Okay, I have my portfolio on an external drive, linked to Lightroom. Now, my first question: If I'm on the road with my laptop, but not the external hard drive, can I make edits which will later be synced with the external HD?

You will be able to edit keywords, rate, flag and such but won't have access to image correction as white balance, exposure, contrast and all those changing the look of the image.

[/quote]If I understand your question, As long as your catalog is stored locally, you will have access to everything in the catalog that pertains to the source file that is in the external drive. You will not have access to the image data contained in those source files. If while on the road, you import new images into the local laptop drive and into LR, you will have access to all your Keywords, presets etc. to fully edit these new images. Later when you are reconnected with your external drive, you can move the new source image files off the local drive to the ecternal drive using LR and it wil be as if you never left the comforts of home.
