Best practices for new Lightroom (re)installation?

After reinstalling Lightroom, starting a new catalog and importing in chunks from the catalog with the 4x6 printing issue, all seems to be well & images print correctly. I pitched the preview file as it's easy for those to be rebuilt & didn't want to tempt fate! So then, do you recommend that I import anything from my old presets folder? What about the old preferences file? Going forward, where is it best to locate the presets folder & preferences? I ask as I've noticed an option in the Preferences to locate the presets folder with the catalog. Any other "best practices" recommendations? Thank you!

Not really a recommendation but if you store presets with catalog and worse if you have to change localization, be aware of this.

If your 4x6 problem was caused by a preset, you may want to exclude that one and recreate but I am more tempted to think it was rather a template.

Thanks for that, Denis, since I only have one catalog and one computer I think I'll leave my presets in the default location. A search of the forums makes me think that storing with the catalog is problematic. You have a good point about the print presets/templates; I'll probably trash those, at least any I created.
Re: the preferences file, does anyone ever "restore" their old preference file if they backed it up elsewhere or renamed it? Or is it best to redo them all?
