Hello there all, I have a perplexing issue which I hope can be solved with all of your help.
I've been running Lightroom 2 for a while now, first got it last year and have kept up with upgrades and such. I have two MacBook Pro's. One is a 2''8 model and the other is an 2''9 Unibody (newest one). I've got Lightroom 2.5 running on both, but for some reason, only the older MacBook has any Camera RAW profiles associated with LR.

I know this because I had only recently installed Lightroom on the new MacBook Pro, and in the calibration drop down list, there is only the ACR 4.4 and 4.3 profiles listed. How is this possible, when the version of LR is 2.5 with ACR 5.5 ?

Just to note, I did not install Lightroom from the disk, because I just recently moved (over seas) and a lot of my things either did not come with me or are in boxes, still. I don't think I have the Lightroom discs, but I did put the dng file onto an external hard drive, and that's where I installed from, then updated when done.

I just went to the other MacBook Pro and mailed myself the profiles which reside there, but am really curious to know what would make such a thing happen ? Also, the Camera RAW profiles seem to be really elusive on the internet, even on the Adobe site. All I was able to find were those original beta profiles.

Help would be appreciated !

Best,

Doug

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum!

Not a clue what happened, but if you ever need to install the profiles, reinstalling the LR update or an ACR update should do the job.

Thanks Victoria. Does this make a first for this type of anomaly ? Ah well, I suppose it could be worse. In any case, I simply sent myself the profile's in an email and moved them to the right spot, and now I'm golden. I will however remember your advice in the future.

Regards,

Doug

Doug, some clarification is needed here.
LR 2.5 should have installed all the profiles for all supported cameras including the D3''. When you select a raw file from the D3'' the camera calibration should show several profiles specific to the D3'', ACR 4.3 (this is the profiles created for ACR and LR when the camera was first supported) ACR 4.4 (this is an updated profile created for all supported cameras) then Adobe Standard (this is a new profile created with LR 2.2 ACR 5.2 I believe) then a few others Camera ..... (these are profiles created by Adobe to simulate the special modes available in the camera).Hope this throws some more light on the subject.

Yeah, I know. That's why I'm confused. Looking in the Camera Raw folder (Mac HD> Library>app support>Adobe>etc..) there was nothing ! Vs. the couple hundred profiles which resides on my other MBP's hard drive. It's fine now, but I'd love to know why LR didn't update with all of those profiles in that folder too.

We've seen that reported very occasionally. On Windows, there can actually be a second Camera Raw folder, one located under Username, and the other under All Users, in the Users\Appdata tree. That can cause confusion once in a while. I think it may be a vestige left over from the DNG profile betaprogram. Shouldn't apply to a Mac tho'.
