Hi

I may have just wasted a few hours!

I've been pruning what images I'd like to keep. I've been doing this by placing all my images in collections and then trimming the collection. Being new to Lightroom I didn't realize that this doesn't delete the original files.

Is there an easy way to delete the images from my disk that don't appear in collections?

I'd imagine that the best way (for next time!) is to do your pruning in the folders section?

Thanks for any advice.

Dino

If you set a reject flag, then you can filter your whole Library to just expose those images that have a reject flag set. In catalog list in the left panel, choose "All Photographs", The an attribute filter that shows only those phots with a "Reject Flag". In the Library grid, use the key combination <Ctrl><A> to select all. Next, Right click on any one of the selected photos to bring up a context menu and choose <Delete Photos...> In the Popup dialog choose "Delete from Disk" to relly delete the files OR "Remove" to just remove them from the catalog.

Hi Clee

Thanks for the reply.

I'm unable to make much progress that way as I didn't use the reject flag when doing my pruning. All I did was press the delete key and the photo disappears from the collection. Will definitely use the reject flag next time....

Essentially, what I'm trying to do is delete original images from my disk that do not appear in any collections.

Thanks

Dino

Maybe do something like this:

1. Select all your collections (click on the first collection and then shift-click on the last)
2. Select all images (Ctrl-A)
3. Go to "All photographs"
4. Invert the selection (Edit -> Invert selection)

Now you should have all your non-collection-images selected. Just hit delete.

Another approach is to create a new Smart Collection
In its filter choose "Collection" "Doesn't Contain" " a e i o u ". This should get all the images NOT in a Collection
Select All these photos and set the reject flag.
Review these and ensure that these are the ones to be deleted Then in ALL Photos, filter on the Rejection Flag and Delete.
