Lightroom Version Number
Lightroom Classic v8.3
Operating System
  1. Windows 10
Lightroom Classic v8.3 (I noticed this with v8.1 and v8.2.1 as well running on different computers)
Windows 10 (1809 & 1903)

Here are the steps I went through:
1. Type the lat long in the search field to locate the spot where I want to drop the selected images
2. Select the images in the strip below to add GPS location info
3. Drag & drop the images into the spot.

I was expecting all the photos taken at the same spot to be placed together. But the photos were placed randomly at different spots along the track I had loaded. (see screenshot below). I started logging a few minutes AFTER I captured the images I selected. But if I select one photo at a time and drop it into the selected location, it works fine. I have noticed this behavior on multiple computers running different versions of LR Classic starting from v8.1.

It's because you've got a track log loaded. When you drop a photo on a map, you're telling it "I was at this point on the track when I took this photo" and then it figures out the time difference between that photo and the other photos and how much further you'd have got along the track in that time. If the tracklog's not showing, they'd all drop exactly where you put them.

Very Interesting. The selected photos were taken between 401pm and 408pm and I turned on the tracking log app (Geotag Photos v2.0) AFTER taking the photos at around 415pm and I expected the tracklog to have no impact on the select3ed images as they were taken earlier than when the tracklog software was run.
