Quick develop tools

Hello!I can not figure out the purpose of Quick develop in Library module.It is the part of Develop module but instead of using sliders we have to click,click,click...Does anyone use it and in what cases?

Making adjustments to many images at once in Grid View is a great use. If you have thirty pictures in a row that are under exposed you can select them all and quickly take the exposure up either a third or full stop and view the changes while still in grid mode.

You can also bring a few images up in Survey mode and tune them together for WB, Exposure and Saturation.

Just a couple of ways I use it.

Another key point is that [acronym=Quick Develop]QD[/acronym] applies relative adjustments to multiply selected images, while the Develop module applies absolute adjustments. The best way to illustrate this is an example.

Patrick on another thread was interested in adding 2/3 of stop exposure to a collection of images. Many of the images had already had tone adjustments applied, including exposure. In the Develop module, any adjustments he applied to multiple images via synchronization, or copy/paste settings ,would have set all the selected images exactly equal to the numeric result of the 2/3 stop increase on the active (most-selected) image. This would have effectively overwritten the previous individual adjustments. Result, each image has the same exposure setting, regardless of its previous setting.

In QD, Patrick can select all the target images, click the '>' exposure icon twice, (each click is 1/3 stop), to add 2/3 of a stop to the 'current setting' of each image. Result, all images are brightened by 2/3 of a stop, on top of any existing adjustments.

Brad, I read the thread you mentioned and I guess I was half asleep at the time. I totally missed the part of it being relative. YAY!
I just played with white balance too, and I see it is relative. But is there a certain set amount (like each click is 1/3 in exposure) that corresponds to each click? I only tried it on a couple of shots and it seemed to vary.

Hello!Thanks a lot for all this information.I had no idea about adjustments to multiply selected images in QD.You gave me another idea.Very often I take several photos of same object with minor differences like angle,distance or aperture and I do not know which is a keeper until I applied adjustments in Develop module to Raw files and compare them all.But to do it one by one ,it takes a lot of time.Now I can select them in survey mode and do basic adjustment and see which photo I like.( I just did it 5 min. ago). :)

Don't really know. I believe that it's a User Interface design issue.

Clearly the designers intended Lr to modal, for some reason or another, generally assumed to be performance related. Library was designed to be fast. Develop was designed to be accurate. I guess it was presumed that some rudimentary adjustment controls would be necessary in Library, in order to roughly assess the 'keepability' of an image.

You're approaching the age-old argument that some of us have advocated from the reverse direction. Library functions in the Develop Module, e.g. keywords, metadata, things currently not available without a mode switch. You're asking why not Develop functions in the Library. Same thing, sort of, less modularity.....
