Hi,

I have a question regarding this topic:

When you use "RAW + JPEG" on your camera ... and then import to LR .... with option "Treat JPEG as separate photo" un-selected (un-checked) ...

Does this mean the LR still import both files, RAW and JPEG, but display only one (which one?)?

Thanks.

If you select treat JPEG as a separate photo, LR will show you two photos (the RAW & The JPEG). If you like, You can 'develop' the JPEG just like you would any other image file.

If you leave the checkbox unchecked, LR will still import both files BUT it will treat the JPEG as a sidecar file to the RAW file and you can not (AFAIK) access it in LR's develop module. It is the RAW file in this case that shows up on the Library Grid.

Having left that checkbox unchecked once and discovering these JPEGs were useless to me in LR, I now import as separate photos and if I choose, can crop and export that JPEG if that (in camera processed) photo is sufficient for my purposes.

Thanks clee'1!,

It is now clear how it works.

It would be nice to have option to automatically stack RAW and the JPEG during import process, but I dont think this exists in LR2.

You might look at automatic stacking by capture time w/ a very small time window set (ie. 1 sec.).
