Hello, I currently am using lightroom v1.3 and have encountered a problem regarding RAW to DNG conversion and sidecar files.
Originally when importing my current batch of pictures,
according to the metadata (which I now know to be not so accurate) many of them did not get converted to DNG despite the option being selected in the important dialog.
A couple weeks later I hit raw in the metadata browser, selected some pictures and converted them, while leaving the originals. Unfortunately, the metadata still listed the pictures as RAW. I then tried to convert a larger batch of pictures, encountered the same problem but this time I opted to delete the originals.
While mousing over the pictures I noticed that they are indeed .dng while still being listed as raw. I even tried writing DNG info and updating metadata or something like that to no avail. Finally I noticed that many of the files that may or may not have been converted are listed as missing sidecar files, while others are not.
What the heck is going on?
How can I make sure the pics are really DNG?
And if they are why do they even need sidecar files?
How can I update the metadata to reflect this?
If they aren’t how do I convert them for sure and avoid this problem in the future?
And finally this isn’t as important but what happened to the original raw files that supposedly were saved when I supposedly converted to DNG initially? I hate clutter in lightroom and I would like to get rid of these.
Thanks in advance ,
Tai
