Problems moving from Captureone to lightroom

Hi

I'm new to the forum, a friend pointed me to the site. I've just moved to LR2 from Captureone. I'm having problems matching the results I got from Captureone, the images tend to come out with less mid tone contrast and brighter.

The Camera is Nikon D3'' and I have tried all the picture control options for the D3''. I also find the D3'' (regardless of RAW developer) to give lighter more luminescent greens than the Nikon D8'.

I use ProphotoRGB and am currently exporting to CS2

The picture control options in the camera will do nothing in LR if you are using RAW. They will effect jpegs (as they are embedded) and RAW images that are decoded in Nikons Capture NX software only.

All cameras give different results, even my D3'' will have a different output than yours. All RAW converters also give different results.

I would recommend you try the camera profiles in the develop module to see if any of them help you find a look that you like. You can also customize the camera profile using the sliders and save it as a preset and use it during import. You can even create your own camera profiles using Adobe DNG Editor but I would leave that for now.

I found that switching off Active D Lighting in the camera also helps when I'm shooting RAW. Active D lighting over exposes the images to get detail into the shadows and then recovers the highlights. This works fine if you are shooting jpegs or using Capture NX to view your RAW files. LR (and most other RAW converters) don't understand Active D lighting so you end up with an over exposed image sometimes.

Thanks for the reply. Its not really NX2 emulation modes I'm seeking - to expand a bit until last year I used a Nikon D8' then moved to the D3''. In all honesty I've had problems matching what I could get with the D8'.

After posting the other day I had a long play with an old D8' file that I knew I had excellent results with in captureone. If anything the results I achieved with LR were probably better than the original conversion.

So on reflection I think its more the D3'' camera profiles that are not to my liking - I have tried all the camera profiles for it. What I dont really like is how the D3'' handles greens been far too luminescent for my tastes. I may look at some third party camera profiles

I slightly different results from the D3'' compared to the D8' but I don't get luminescent greens. Maybe you should get the camera checked out.
