I am having a problem with my custom-made EDIT-IN Preset. While clicking on it launches the image (dng, psd or tiff) in PS, the custom settings of the preset (in my case: 8bit, sRGB) are not applied to the image. Instead the image is opened in PS with the default settings as specified in the Preference menu (in my case: 16bit, ProPhoto RGB).

I am running LR2.2 & PS CS3 (1'.'.1) on a 64bit Windows Vista Business machine.

The settings of the preset are:

Application: Photoshop.exe

File Format: TIFF

Color Space: sRGB

Bit Depth: 8 Bits

Resolution: 24'

Compression: None

By the way, this problem occurs also on my 32bit XP-Pro Computer.

Any helpful suggestions?
Happy New Year!

I can reproduce the same phenomenon on LR 2.1. Apparently, when PS CS3 is the default editor, LR does not seem to be able to override the default settings, even when you set it up as an Additional External Editor, like you did, in the Preferences>External Editing. I can get it to work just fine if I use another program, such as PS CS2 or PSE 6.'.

My suggestion would be to change your default preferences for now, if the above settings are your most often used. Otherwise, you may just have to change the color space and bit depth in PS.

Welcome Mike, please take a moment to fill in your signature with relevant info such as mine in the UserCP. Thanks and enjoy!!

Thanks everybody for the feedback.

I am surprised that this problem has not been reported earlier--apparently not a popular feature. I will file an official bug report.

By the way, it tested my custom-made edit preset with the following combination: LR 2.2 & PS CS (8.'.1), and it works fine. Which confirms Peter´s thesis that the problem is caused by LR 2.x and PS CS3 not properly working together.

Mike

Still no luck with edit-in presets & CS3

Hi everybody,

Just a quick follow-up. I upgraded to LR2.3 but the problem with using custom-made edit-in presets and PS-CS3 persists. See initial posting.

Will LR2.4 eventually solve the problem?

Cheers,

Mike

Check your color settings in Photoshop. They may be set to convert to working space or another or ignore the profile etc. Otherwise, I dunno!

Does it happen with all file types or just with raw files? It may be the change of behaviour with raw files that's causing it... check your ACR settings for bit depth and colour profile - I just have a vague recollection that CS3 picked up the settings from there.

Denis & Victoria,

Thanks for your suggestions. Alas, they did not help solve the problem.
The problem occurs with all file types, and PS´s color settings don´t interfere.

As I mentioned earlier, the problem occurs only with CS3, the feature works fine with CS and CS2.

I am wondering if others WINDOWS users of LR2.3 & CS3 experience the same problem. Would be nice to hear from them.

Cheers,

Mike
