Lightroom Version Number
Classic 9.4
Operating System
  1. Windows 10
Using Classic 9.4 and Windows 10. I have a problem with the Edit Catalog Settings that has been going on for some time and with previous versions of Lightroom.
If I go to Edit Catalog Settings I get the normal screen. When I click ok to get out, I get various failures. This happens whether or not I make any changes. Sometimes the computer will immediately freeze up. Sometimes everything will work ok but when I go to exit Lightroom the computer will freeze up. When this happens I have to go into task manager and force Lightroom to close. And sometimes the computer will just freeze up for 20 or 30 seconds and then go back to normal. Once I get Lightroom to close, when I open again everything works as it should as long as I do not open the Edit Catalog Settings window. I have three catalogs, one for my family photos, one for my personal projects, and one for my paid work. They all have the same problem. Since I seldom have to go into Edit Catalog Settings I have just been ignoring the problem but I am concerned this might be an indicator of other problems. Since Catalog Settings seem to be unique to each catalog, I don't know if resetting preferences may help or not. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I would be tempted to export your complete catalog as a new catalog (with a distinctive name you will remember), double click on the new exported catalog and see if the problem persists. Useful to make sure you remember the name of your existing catalog, so you can open that one if the test fails.

I create a brand new version of my catalog every 12-18 months using the export catalog option, to make sure my catalog is as clean as possible and any junk left behind from failed database activity is removed.
