I'm having a problem deleting photos/files. What I've been doing with some unwanted photos was to hit delete button or right-click and pick 'delete photo' from the pop-up menu. Then it would take me to a dialog box where I could choose a couple options, which I would usually choose to delete it from the disk as well.

But sometimes those options go away and I cannot find the option to delete photos and can only remove keywords instead. It seems to go back-and-forth and I don't know how I get there or how I get back. I also cannot find any option in the regular pull-downs to delete a photo from the catalog and the disc together. Where can I properly choose/set what I want to do?

I am using LR 1.3, btw. Thanks.

Welcome Uncle Leo. You will find tis problem if you are in Collections. There Delete only removes them from the Collection. This is by design. You don't indicate PC or Mac. There are four key combos (different for each) that will Delete (trash) an image from there.

I don't use them, so never remember them. someone will come along a list them for you, though.

Ah, ok. Then somehow I end up in Collections by mistake. I'm in the process of sorting through several year's worth of photos and am only culling and keywording at this point.

Thanks. I have a PC (Windows XP), btw.

Leo, Welcome to the forums....

I don't have 1.3 installed, but testing with 1.4.1, shows you can arrive in a similar situation to the collection conundrum Don describes, by clicking on a keyword in the Left Hand Keyword browser panel. By choosing this route to your images, Lr assumes that you're interested in Keywords as opposed to other management functions, and the context changes.

Try this for a work-around, click on the Keyword of interest in the keyword browser, select the images of interest, and without doing anything else, choose the 'All Photographs' special collection at the top of the Left Hand Panel. This should keep the pertinent images selected, while changing to a context which permits image deletes.

BTW, there's really no reason not to upgrade to v1.4.1, from the 1.3 you're using. It's far more stable, and has a few added capabilities, and it's free.

And the 4 key shortcut, for those contortionists out there, is Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Backspace for Windows or Cmd-Opt-Shift-Del for Mac.

The 4-key shortcut worked well, though ideally I'd prefer just using the delete button. I have noticed that when I import a new set of photos that it apparently takes me out of "collections" and I can easily delete as long as I don't left-click on a keyword. Once I left-click on a keyword it's all over. Is it possible to toggle out of collections?

I upgraded to 1.4.1, btw.

In a collection, right click on an image and choose "Show in folder"... You can then easily delete from there.

Time to update your signature then ;)
