Printouts in LR 2.3 are "stretched"

PC: Intel quad, Vista 64 bit, 6 gb
camera: Nikon D3''
Printer: Epson 38'', paper Epson Luster 8.5x11

I am struggling to get a decent printout. I have a nice image displayed in LR, but result is not wysiwig. Main problem is portraits are stretched vertically. Windows media player does not have this problem, so problem is not the printer.
I have tried a variety of things. I have turned off color processing in the printer per standard guidelines. I have loaded the "PLPP" profile for the paper. I have tried checking and unchecking various "zoom to fit" buttons. I have spent a week trying to cover all bases, to make sure I have set it up correctly. I just reviewed the various screens for this posting, and there just don't seem to be any "gotchas" here. The LR 2.3 screens are pretty straight forward. Any ideas?
I called Adobe support, but they wanted me to pay for tech support, a proposition I have moral problems with.
At this point, my theory is that there is a problem with the Adobe 64-bit driver. So tonight I am reverting my system to 32 bit. We'll see.
Does anyone have any idea about something I am doing wrong? Something so obvious its in front of my face, but I don't see it?
Note that the windows media player seems to produce a reasonable printout, it's what i've been using as a fallback. But its inherent capabilities are less than LR's advertised ones.

May I suggest that you edit out your email address and ph number as spammers do trawl the net looking for such things and you wouldn't want to be inundated with spam.

Any chances of screen shots of the printer driver and Lr print setups? Most problems of this nature will appear as undesired 'cropping' of the image, as opposed to 'stretching/shrinking'. Either something's goofy with the printer driver, or you're accidentally choosing a 'resize' option somewhere.

You say 'problem with the Adobe 64 bit driver'. It's far more likely that the problem is with the Epson 64 bit driver. I know that printer is pretty popular, perhaps someone will have specific advice.
