Printing with Canon MP600

I've been trawling the net trying to find if anyone has experienced and fixed the problem with canon printers and Lightroom.

In the Print module, it is possible to setup presets for your different paper types etc. and to set the Colour matching and Colour options so that you can use profiles in Lightroom to manage the colour. the setting should be :

Colour Matching: Vendor matching
Colour Options: None

However if you then want to print more than one image, you click the "Print.." button and you assume that the printer settings are the same as you had just set up. But If I check, I find that:

ColourMatching now has Colorsync selected, but that the options are also greyed out so it is impossible to change.

If you exit that screen and go in to Print setting from the button bottom left of the screen you still have the same problem.

My prints have been coming out consistently darker than they should - I downloaded a test file and was amazed at how inaccurate it was.

I haven't calibrated the monitor as when printing from photoshop, the same image came out much closer to the image on screen although if anything it was lighter than the screen version!

I'm at my wits end over this - and I haven't come across anyone who has listed this problem with Canon printers and found a solution.

Hi Julian,

I am experiencing the same problem in printing from LightRoom 2.2 to a Canon MP6''. If I print directly from Vista, the print is vibrant and very representative of what appears on the screen. However, when printing from Lightroom the colours are extremely washed out.

Is it possible to get a dummies guide to how to get lightroom and the canon MP6'' printer to work together properly?

Hi Pat,

I haven't got anywhere with this. I contacted Canon and have heard nothing from them. i also contacted Adobe - who blamed Canon printer drivers.

Have you had any luck?

Julian, like yourself, I get the same dark, color-shifted prints on my Canon Pixma ip4'''. I've tried every suggestion I've heard. I've calibrated my monitor with Spyder2, I've turned-off printer managed printing, I've selected the correct paper profile, and have disabled color management in my printer driver. Nothing has worked.

It is my understanding that LR has different printing system than Photoshop. It relies on good, updated drivers from printer manufacturers. Since my printer is older and hasn't had a driver refesh in 2 years, I tend to agree that it is a driver issue. Unfortunately, that doesn't solve my problem.

I finally stumbled upon a hack solution that goes against all common sense and makes the purists gasp in horror. In the LR printing profile selection list, I choose the sRGB display profile. This is the only way I've found to give me an acceptable print in LR without buying a new printer. Yes, I know you should never do this, but it works for me. I may rot in hell, but I'm getting decent prints now.

i,ve got the same problem with my ip4'''. if i print through windows picture viewer they are really good but very dark with lightroom. how do i turn disabled color management in my printer driver please.

I have managed to get Canon to take notice of this problem, even showing the help desk over the phone how to recreate it. It's being escalated to Canon Europe now so maybe we are finally getting somewhere.
