print with background image

I have looked around in LR & LR2 to find a way to print my images on a background image... I tried using the identity plate but it does not work as it is on the top layer.

My intention is to print 1 or more photos per page each with a drop shadow using a faded background image, on my Epson 4'''.

Does anyone has experimented this yet, either with the help of a plugin or with a background template associated with the printer?

Any workaround or advise would be great.

I can't think of a way of doing it currently, but the picture package in 2.' will make it possible one day - once you can have different images on the same page (it's currently just multiples of the same image).

I'd love to hear any other workarounds though! Possibly create the ID plate with a hole in the middle, so then it wouldn't matter that it's the top layer?

I have not tried it, but isn't here a tick under ID plate in Print for 'Render Behind image'.

I think that you are correct. I have tried doing this sort of thing but the images come in low res, even though they are hi res. I am trying to find a way around it at the moment.

You must first have a background image the same size as the print size being used.

1. Go into the Overlays Panel in the Print Modula and check the box to use an Identitiy Plate

2. Click in the ID Plate box and select Edit down at the bottom of the list

3. Click on the Use a graphical Identity Plate

4. Locate the image to be used as the background

5. Save it by clicking on the Custom box in the lower left and giving it a unique name

6. Click OK

7. Select the new ID Plate in the Overlay Panel

8. Click on the Render behind image box and position accordingly

This is not solving Paul's problem Victoria but I frequently print multiple images on the same page with LR 1.3.1 (All same size tough).

I indeed find the option to render the identity plate behind the image. The background I intend to use is a hires A3 jpg, and the identity plate to struggle with that, as it gives me a black shape instead as my background image. I will lower the resolution of that image and try again.

Now I see that LR does not give an option to have a nice drop shadow around the image... so I think I will probably end doing the portfolio in InDesign like I use to do, before LR is around the corner...
