Print to file

The print function has some great, easy to use facilities for displaying multiple images on the same page. It would be very useful to then export the page as a JPEG file so that it can be used in a slideshow or emailed to a client.

(Maybe this facility is there, but if so I can't find it!)

David, I use a screen capture product on Windows called SnagIt. I understand it's fairly popular. As a part of its install, it installs a printer driver that provides a virtual input into the capture program. And then you can save various formats or print from there. I haven't tried it for full blown hi-quality prints, so I can't vouch for studio quality output, but you can use this workaround to basically "Print to Jpeg". I believe that PaperPort, the scanned document management application also installs a virtual printer driver with similar functionality.

I'm sure SnagIt has a free trial period, maybe give that a shot.

It is something you can do on a Mac because of the graphics engine, but not on Windows.

To do what David need, I use CutePDF Writer. This program install as a printer and when you print to it, it just ask for a filename/location for the PDF. The size of the image will depend on the size set in Lightroom/CutePDF so you are not limited by the pixel count of a screen capture... For the sake of testing before writing this, I just printed an E size (24" x 36") and a B size (13" x 19") PDFs.

CutePDF works fine for PDF's, there are a number of utilities out there that install as windows drivers and will output to a file (tiff, jpg, etc). For a slideshow, this would work fine.

Off the top of my head, I know that LeadTools makes such a driver, not free though. A quick Google search should uncover more.

How do you get Cute PDF to give you decent colour? The conversion from the ProPhoto RGB engine on my Windows machine gives terrible results. Is there a profile available somewhere?

I did it only once in the past and color was OK enough for the purpose. I was mainly giving an example to David.

Back to your question, just go to the PDF Printer driver "Print Options" and click "Advanced". Under "Graphics", you will see "Color Management"... There you go.
