Print size - never exact

If I create a Contact Sheet/Grid print in LR 2 (2.1 now...same problem) at let's say, 8x1' in. and print this on an 8.5x11 in. piece of paper, when I measure out the final print it's not actually 8x1' in. It's bigger (by about 1/2 in. all around).

What's going on?

I think I have it figured out...sort of.

My printer has "Expansion" settings for borderless printing. It was set to Max. I've now set it to Min (there is no Off setting) and it's very, very close now. It's an Epson R24''.

Anyone else experience this?

Glad you figured it out, but yep, it's pretty common.

The way that Epsons get borderless is to actually enlarge the image to extend over the edge of the paper so no matter what size your original is it will be enlarged.

How much paper and ink did that lesson cost to learn, Andrew? It's a wonder any of this stuff ever works exactly right, with all the default tweaks, settings and adjustments that this gear applies without ever documenting/informing the user. How are Adobe's engineers supposed to know that a printer mfg'r doesn't honor dimension specifications, but only in certain situations?

I guess that these sorts of "gotcha's" are why our forum is so busy here.

I found that out well before LR. Some commercial photo labs a;so enlarge images to get the files to bleed off the paper so an 8x6in image will be enlarged to say 8.26x6.25 but most people don't notice.
