Lightroom 2.3 will not load the print module unless the printer it is set to print with is the default printer. I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. If the Epson photo printer is not the default Vista printer, Lightroom just sits (spinning circle) when you try to do anything with printing. If I tell Vista to use the photo printer as a default, Lightroom works fine (loads the print dialog). Why is this and is there a fix?

I really don't wish to keep the Epson printer as the default system printer. Yet I wish it to be the default printer from Lightroom.

Sorry I can't help on this one as I am Mac based, hopefully someone running Vista might be able to help. Perhaps you could fill in your signature a bit more with the version of LR and your system etc.

Bizarre problem! What do you wish to have as the default printer?

Well it all started when I asked about saving my default Photo printer settings in Lightroom. Up until I did, my b&w laser printer would come up as the default printer in Lightroom (since it is my Vista default printer). I would have to tell Lightroom to use the Epson photo printer and give it all the settings each time. A pain. I set up a print template with the Epson printers as the default (in Lightroom) and all the setting I usually use. From that point on, Lightroom would lock up when I entered the Print tab unless I set the Epson to the OS default printer before starting Lightroom.

You could try moving/deleting the preferences file. Solves weird problems.

This is not normal behavior as my Epson photo print is not my default printer. If moving or deleting the preferences file doesn't work as Victoria suggested, you might consider deleting both printers and reinstalling. Procedure: 1. Delete both printers from your computer using Control Panel>Printers. 2. Disconnect both printers from computer. 3. Go to manufactures web site and download the latest drivers for Vista 64 and install them. 4. Reconnect each printer one at a time. Be sure not to reconnect them until after you have downloaded and installed the drivers. Give them time to install properly as they will pick up the correct drivers. If this doesn't help I have no idea. Note: You mentioned that you want your b&w printer to be default for most things but the Epson to be default for printing images. This is not possible and has nothing to do with Lightroom. A computer can have only one default printer and this is set in the operating system, ie. Vista 64. So when you go to print in Lightroom, you will have to temporarily change (this doesn't affect your default printer) the printer to the Epson.

Try print preferences

I had the same problem on a Mac. Without changing my default printer in Mac OS, from Lightroom I went to file>print settings, and changed the printer to my Epson. All is now well. I hope this helps.
