While playing around with preset locations, I've discovered that the 2.' beta will not copy your presets over when using Edit-Preferences-Presets-Store presets with catalog. Selecting this option causes all of your presets to disappear except for the standard LR presets.

Hope this is on somebody's "Fix List".

That's the whole point of that function Bill. It keeps the presets with the catalog, not globally. It's quite handy if you have different presets that you use for different jobs, or for transferring them back and forth between computers along with the catalog, but I leave them global most of the time.

I guess it did do the same thing in v1 but it's been a while since I changed to storing them with the catalog and forgot I had to copy them manually.

My point is that if I have a catalog and presets that I've created, it seems to me that selecting "Store presets with catalog" would do just that, i.e. store the preset files and folders in the catalog folder. What actually happens is the LR creates a new Lightroom Settings folder in the Catalog folder and a set of empty subfolders with none of the user presets I've created.

It makes sense when you consider it's a global setting and not catalog specific, but it sure does make the blood pressure spike when all your presets disappear!!!:shock:

Thanx, all!

Im almost got it! but...

Victoria and Bill, your posts help me alot , but I need a little tip about presets. is there a way that everytime I open a NEW catalog, all of my presets will show up? Is it that I need to leave the preference off for "keep preset with catalog"? I thought I have read a bunch of time that you should have that ON, not OFF. But I have been stumped everytime I try to open a new catalog, the presets are gone. Now I have it off in preferences, it works! Imagine that! What good is having it ON then? thanks for your time.

Hi trebla, welcome to the forum!

Yes, turn 'keep presets with catalog' off and you'll be all set.

Turning it on is useful if you have specific presets for specific catalogs, or you constantly move your one and only catalog back and forth between different machines.

Thanks Victoria.

That advise helps a ton! I was going crazy. So I have two more questions that hopefully you can help with.
1. I have my presets saved in about 6 places, not sure where they need to be. I am on a MAC, and want to know where they should be stored.
2. What if I do want to travel with a catalog on a diff computer, what all do I need to copy over in order to use the catalog on a diff computer?

No problem Albert.

Your presets need to go in:
/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets

If you're moving to a different computer, I'd grab that whole /Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/ folder so that all of your presets and settings are the same on both computers. I'd be tempted to take the preferences file too: Close Lightroom and find the Preferences file. It'll be at:
/Users/[your username]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom.plist.

And you'll want your .lrcat catalog file - or I might use Export as Catalog if you just want to split off part of the catalog to take with you.
