A significant bug has been found in Lightroom 3.4 and Camera Raw 6.4 that can cause corruption of original files.

This only applies if:

  • Your original files are JPEGs
  • The JPEGs include large amounts of a specific type of metadata
  • You write your XMP data back to the originals
The vast majority of users will be unaffected, but as the bug can corrupt original files, it's still significant.

For more details, see the post on Lightroom Journal.

Thanks, Mark.

5 days between the first bug report and the acknowledgement with a planned fix date is pretty impressive, I think.

... and a good reason to go 3.4.1 when it comes out.
