Ok here goes,
With preferences set to edit an image in CS4 as a tiff image select an image and select the edit command. The image opens up in CS4 but with no tiff extension, only the original filename say DSCF1234.DNG.
If you save the file as a PSD first it will save correctly as a PSD and be seen by LR in the current library. If you keep the image open in CS4 and do some more editing and then do just a save then you would think that the PSD would be updated but wrong, it actually saves a new file with a tiff extension and the edit naming convention set in the LR preferences.
This could well be design but seems like a small bug or might just be me going completely bonkers
