There is most likely a simple answer but, I can't find it. Here is the process:
Export a CR2 file to Phototools 2 using OnOne plug in
Edit
Apply
File comes back into LR 2.3 as a PSD at 1'1 Megs
Export to same folder, stack with original, jpg,
Jpg file is 18 megs!

Files are moved into Photoshop CS4 as sRGB, 8bit

I am frustrated as I have spent alot of $$ and I end up with huge files.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

In Phototools:

Amazing detail finder
Auto tone and color
Clarify
Red Hot
Then apply

I do not know if it is re-sampled or not. If I do adjustments in LR2 it save as a nice 4 or 5 meg jpg file.

Are the number of pixels the same in your original CR2 and the new .jpg?

Nope! Original CR2 is 2256x15'4

JPG is 4272x2848 ?

Tried edit in CS4 and hit save and got a large psd again. Exported and got another huge jpg. Gotta be a CS4 setting. Gonna go look.

something you are doing is generating more pixels, which could explain the larger jpg files.

I use CS4 also and the files can get pretty large with layers etc... but the jpg should not be that big unless you are adding pixels (which at some point you are)

First up Jpeg is a heavily compressed format, while PSD is much less so. If your pixel count has increased, somewhere along the way you're increasing the size.

If you open the PSD file in Photoshop, do you see more than one layer? If so that's where some of the extra size is coming from.

First up, figure out where the extra size is coming from. Make sure that Camera Raw is not resizing the file. Next flatten any layers (unless you want to keep them specifically).

Alternatively, you could Export the PSD as a Jpeg. Choose 2256x15'4 as Dimensions, Add to Catalog, Same folder as Original, Colour space as you prefer. Quality at least 85.

This will make a smaller Jpeg of the file in the same folder, but not stacked with the original.

Thanks for the input. I got it figured out (so far so good). It looks like it is the onone plugin itself. If I go edit it....CS4 then go to onone play a little then apply and save from photoshop it works great 4 to 8 megs at 1''%. If I use the plugin from inside LR2.3 I end up with the bloated file. Go figure.
