Background:
- Generating contact sheet in the Print module
- 23'+ pictures on a 6x4 page grid
- The only info printed was filename
- Using draft mode printing for quicker output
- My whole catalog has around 13'' pictures (all in raw), all from my Canon 4''D (therefore not really a big catalog)

Potentially a bug(?):
- Sending contact sheet directly to printer worked perfectly (HP laserjet - yes, literally a draft black and white contact sheet)
- BUT, when printing onto PDF files, some pictures have white lines on it. (Pls see attached)
- I am using Acrobat ver 8.1.2 (PC)

Tried to rectify:
- I was thinking that it was the problem of some of the previews saved in the catalog cache
- Therefore, I forced lightroom to generate 1:1 previews for half of the pics to be printed (I dont keep 1:1 preview generally to reduce file size)
- Print to PDF again --> resolved! Those with 1:1 previews showed up 'correctly', whilst those without 1:1 preview still have problems.

To summarize:
I cannot imagine I have to generate 1:1 preview every time I print a contact sheet. If not, does it mean that I have to rebuild my whole catalog to generate the previews again? They show perfectly on screen, so really cannot tell which one has problem. Possibly a problem with Acrobat?

Many thanks in advance for your kind advice.

Bosco

Bosco,
It may or may not be of any help to resolving your particular problem, but I had a similar outcome using a desktop publishing programme which then converted to PDF printed output. In my case the photos were not white-lined but white-spotted. I discovered the reason was due to the low resolution photos being used as input objects. Although PDF seem to produce good on-screen images which can be zoomed in for viewing by a tremendous amount before breakup, it must be using a lot of interpolation. I overcame the problem of white-spotted prints (which occurred mainly in the shadow areas or on dark prints in grayscale), by using better quality images to start with. This may be the case with your own problem as the contact or draft prints are using very low resolution previews - just a thought - Best of luck!

Thanks guys. Let me do a few more tests and report back.

By the way I have standard previews (at 168') generated for all images at import -- I can see the work-in-progress bar moving on top left saying 'generating standard previews.

Cheers.

Remove white lines from pics on contact sheet

Bosco,
I had the same problem. I reduced the print quality of the PDF and the white lines went away. White lines appeared when I was using 12''dpi and disappered after dropping this print setting to 6''dpi.

Assuming you have the Adobe PDF printer driver already set up... the following menu path is what I did to resolve my white line issue:

LR > Print module: select Page Setup > Properties > Print/Quality tab > Advanced... Graphic > Print Quality... 6''dpi > OK, OK, OK

I hope this works for you!
