I hope the description is good enough, but here goes. When I import photos into LRCC on my laptop, they get sorted into date folders. If I import into Lightroom on my iPad first, then when those photos get synced down to LRCC they just end up in the root of my Pictures folder. Is there any way to sort them into date folders automatically, other than manually figuring out which folders are needed and moving the photos?

Yes....look at your Preferences>Lightroom Sync tab.....there you can specify a different location for the synced images, and you can also choose to have them stored in date-based folders. For already synced images, you can darg and drop them to a different folder using the Folders Panel.

BTW, "LRCC" does not exist any more, it's confusing when it's used as some people understand that to be the "cloudy" version, others may think it's the Classic version. Best to stick with the correct names.

Thanks Jim. Point taken about the naming although I do wish Adobe would stop mucking about with the names.
So basically for the photos that are currently in my Pictures root folder, I still need to move them manually, if I understand you right. Bit of a pain but doable, I suppose.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were as confused as the rest of us!

If it is a major pain, there is a workaround by removing and reimporting. Generally not something one would recommend, but one can say more if it's a big deal to move them manually.
