photos disappeared! please help!

I'm very new to Lightroom. Just downloaded v.2 and have been using the trial mode. I have imported hundreds of photos in the last couple of weeks, and everything has been fantastic. Last night, I imported about 2'' photos. Everything went as normal. I even viewed them all using the "slideshow" function. Afterwards, as before, I deleted all of the photos off of my camera. Today, I opened the LR folder expecting to find a "'9'6'8" folder, and there was nothing.

I noticed that last night, before I closed LR, under "catalog-all photographs" it showed 7''+ photos. Today it shows 586.

Are my most recent imported photos gone? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First don't reuse that card!!
How did you d/load the files and to where??

I'm guessing that today, you opened up the backup catalog instead of the newer one.

In the File menu, go to Open Recent, and see whether there's another catalog there that has the '9'6'8 files.

Mark: I tried looking in the "recent files", but no luck. I haven't made any backups yet. When that window pops up, I have been clicking on the "later" button.

Geoff: I have not used the card again. I imported the photos just like I did several times before..... attached the camera (Canon 4'd) to my laptop via usb cable. Opened LR and selected "import from device...". I let the program choose the location, again, just like all the times before. (LR put them in separate files by the date the photos were shot). After all the photos were imported, I decided to check out the "Slideshow" feature. I replaced the "Lightroom" tagline with my name and then ran the slideshow. That's the only thing I did differently from all the other times.

When I went back to the LR folder, under "2''8" like usual, there was no file for '9'6'8.

Marks suggestion is a good one. Look again under File>Open Recent.
If nothing there try plugging in the camera/card again and seeing if they will reimport. See what happens with that.

Ok..... I'm a big dummy. I found my missing photos, and just in case it might help someone else, I'll explain what happened.

I share a laptop with my wife, and we use the same "user" profile (Windows Vista) 99% of the time. Well, the night that I imported my most recent photos, the laptop was signed on to a different profile and I just didn't notice. When I signed on to our usual profile the next day, the photos were no where to be found. Not even a search through the "c" drive found them. It wasn't until I signed on to the other profile that I was able to locate them.

Thanks to everyone here for the suggestions and quick responses. I will be a regular viewer for sure.

File: open recent

i sooo wish i'd thought to use that as today i opened LR2, newly dowloaded last week, and catalog empty so i feverishly went about going to back ups, no avail.. should have checked opened recently, but now its only showing what i did this morning, in blind panick. Anyway of getting that info back? I have a current thread, Opened LR and Catalog empy.. or something like, for more details.
