Photo sent to CS4 by LR2.5 quit arriving

Using LR 2.5, CS4 and Snow Lepoard:
All three playing nicely, then w/o notice photo sent to CS4 would open CS4, but not arrive. Not only that, in my viewstrip a .psd file would appear; but not findable by Bridge. I know that becuz I opened Bridge to go to CS4 and see if the pix would open that way. The NEF was there, and opened fine, but the 3 .psd files LR had created, (I tried 3x) didn't appear to arrive at the hard drive either.
Even stranger, I tried edit in Noise Ninja; sent a NEF, LR says preparing file to export, and makes it a PSD, which then NJ says file format not recognized.
I have deleted Pref file in CS4, optimized library in LR, repaired permissions in Mac OS. All indicators would point to LR. Any suggestions?

New Wrinkle:
PSD files will open; NEF files won't. PS starts, but no pix.

Hi Sylvia, welcome to the forum!

So just to check, which camera are the NEF files from? And have you run all of Photoshop/Bridge's updates to make sure you have the latest ACR update. My first thought would be that Lightroom's passing the raw data, and PS doesn't know what to do with it.
