Does anyone know if having a top level keyword named People, would conflict with whatever LR does - with or without Face Recognition switched on? I ask because under Keyword List there are three tabs called All, People and Other.

I don't wish to use Face Recognition, but I do wonder what would happen if I opted to convert my People keyword with the Convert Keywords to Person Keywords command. I seem to remember from previous mistakes that this conversion is ireversable - is this still the case?

For example, would it then store the person names in the IPTC Extension Person Shown in the Image field?

Any enlightenment will be appreciated.

I can not imagine that a toplevel keyword 'People' would generate a conflict. I did a test and nothing happened, i could toggle the Keyword Tag Option to 'People' and back with no problems either.
I believe this Tag is only what is says, a tag. It's easier to filter on them (people) in the keyword list panel:
