I installed LR2 and have very slow response in processing . Ex. when I open and switch between files in the library view, or going to the develop module and opening various images. It makes it even slower if the images has been previously edited with the adjustment brush.

It seems my whole computer has slowed.

Is there specific settings in LR2, catalogue settings, that may optimize the speed.
I have the program on HD 'C' and the images, catalogue and back up on another internal HD.

I have used LR1.. for some time. It has always been some what sluggish, but now it is beyond what it should be,

I have Dell WinXP2 2g RAM, Pentium4 2ghz

It is older and not the fastest but speed took a significant hit upgrading to LR2.
Any ideas
Thanks

Voyta, which 2.x version are you using? There's an unconfirmed memory leak in the adjustment brushes which could explain the problem you're seeing. Restart the computer and avoid using the local adjustments for a bit, and see if that helps.

You could also optimize the catalog - under the catalog settings dialog. How many photos in the catalog?

I am using LR2.2
Did optimize the catalog
I have about 3''-4'' photos in the catalog.
When I upgraded to v.2 I tried to keep the same catalog and not start a new one. I am not sure if I followed the correct process but I am able to access all the files and photos.

It's not you

Voyta - Lr 2.2 has been "disappointing", as my Victorian Grandmother might have said. For some this fix version has been the worst of the lot. Hopefully Adobe will eventually get it right.

If you still have your old catalog and your old installation files for 1.4.1, I would revert to it and upgrade when Lr 2 actually works.

I have given up using it for anything serious.

One thing you can try, voyta, is to go to Library/Grid view and just scroll through your library letting the "..." go away for each one. It shouldn't be too painful- perhaps 3' seconds for each screenfull with approx 5' on screen.

I am not sure what you are indicating about the library/grid view?

If I choose to uninstal LR2.2, would it make any difference to go to 2.' or best to with 1.4?
Shame actually, the concept is great and the images I have played with look good but it is an unstable program.

If I do uninstall, will it save my library so I can reinstall 1.4, is there a way to make sure my images from 1.4 are unchanged? I put both catalogues together.

That's the Grid View in the Library Module. After upgrading or updating the program, including changing the camera profiles from the betas to the Adobe standard, Lightroom re-generates the thumbnails and creates the thumbnail badges for the images. My experience is that the first time it does this it takes considerably longer to do than 1.X did. Thereafter, it seems to speed up. Since one of your complaints was about how slow it is changing images in the Library, I thought (and still do think) it may help if you let the "..." go away the first time before scrolling through the images.

Just go back to 2.1 Voyta, and wait for 2.3! You can't downgrade a 2.x catalog to use with 1.x.
