Parent Keyword option not appearing

I'm using LR 1.3 on Windows XP
I hadn't used the keywording in a while and yesterday I went to add some keywords to my files and I noticed that the "Export Parent" option was not available but it seems to have been replaced by "Export Containing Keywords" I searched for documentation on this and I couldn't find it anywhere. Is this something that has been updated recently? I believe this is suppose to take the place of Export Parent but the problem I'm having is that now synonyms are not being exported (I made sure the box was checked) and when I uncheck a parent keyword it still gets exported. Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Not something I know about, however could you please take the time to fill in your signature under the UserCP (top left). This assist greatly with problem solving - you will end up with a signature similar to mine.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that. It certainly said "Export Parents" in 1.' (I have an old screenshot to verify) and says "Export Containing Keywords" in 1.3. Not sure when that changed, nor do I know whether it is just a wording change or is tied to a functional change as well.

Not sure about your problem, I can't seem to replicate it. Can you post a recipe to follow?

As an example, I could have the following keywords (Location>Virginia>Richmond) where Richmond is a child of Virginia, Virginia has a synonym of VA, and Location is a parent that I checked not be exported. I drag an image to the keyword Richmond. What I would expect is for the keywords Virginia,VA and Richmond to be assigned to the image.
I then edit the file in CS3 and check the file info and what is there is:
Location,Virginia,Richmond
Location shouldn't have been saved, and the synonym, VA, wasn't saved. I did make sure that all the appropriate boxes had been checked.

What you see in the key-wording seems logical to me though. I would not expect synonyms to be applied but would expect the parent to be. Just my way of thinking though.

There are options there as to whether you want the parent and synonyms or the keyword it self to be output. I selected not to have the top level keyword (Location) output and to output the synonyms but the selections don't seem to be working.

So to clarify, Virginia and Richmond had "Export Containing Keywords" unchecked.
Did the Location keyword have "Include on Export" checked?

In that case, I wonder which one wins. I'll have to find the time to test that...

BTW, I have confirmation that the change from "Parents" to "Containing Keywords" is just a wording change -- no change in functionality.

One more thought -- do you also have the Location/City/State/Country fields populated with these same values? Those are always exported (unless you have "minimize embedded metadata" checked).

New observations

Someone pointed out somethings to me and here are my latest observations. I'd appreciate it if someone else could confirm this to make sure its not just me.

If you use Export it works like I thought it should as long as you don't select "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy". If you use the hierarchy option then the synonyms aren't written out. So that resolves the synonym issue, the keywords I selected not to be written out aren't and the parents are. Great.

But, if you select to Edit in CS3 directly from LR then the keywords are saved differently in the file. Which is what I was observing: keywords that I selected not to be written are written anyway and the synonyms aren't written out.

The work around would be to export the file as a PSD and then read it into CS3 which is annoying since it adds a time consuming additional step to the work flow.

I know this is an old thread but did anyone get to the bottom of this as I am experiencing the same behaviour.

I prefer CTRL-E as I can add the new file to the stack at the same time.
