I have the exact opposite problem! I am doing a first-time import, it's not on my regular machine, but on a PowerPC Mac from 2''4, leopard1'5.5, (my old computer)
I have five external drives, about 2.5 Terabytes of memory tied into my mac, all work related photos, mostly Raw. I do architectural photography for a living.

I look at the screen, and it says I have 1,325,''' files, and it;s stil running!

What's this about I don't think it's humanly possible to have shot that many photographs in my lifetime (yet> But I certainly can't imagine processing thumbnail previews of that vast number!

Any ideas for me? What is the best way to get a nice looking library of my work on Lightroom?

Hello there, that is a lot of images!!!
What steps did you take???????? Where did you import from??

Have you used iPhoto on this machine?

Hi Chandlerjam, welcome to the forum!

I've merged the two posts into one thread, otherwise things get confusing!

That certainly sounds like a huge number - it sounds like you've pointed to the root of the drive and set it importing? I'd guess it's found all sorts of other photos along the way.

Personally, if you know where you photos are stored, and they're in a logical structure, which I'm sure they are, I'd navigate down an extra level or two and import a chunk at a time.

Victoria's advice is spot on as usual. I had exactly the same problem and in my case was caused by:

2''7-12-'1_1'29'2.jpg

The link shown above was to another drive which caused LR to go into a crazy loop but no idea how it got there.
