Output sharpening for "real" printing

The output sharpening options I've seen in Lightroom 2 all appear to be designed for inkjet printing, or for web use. Hence the three choices (screen, matte paper, glossy paper.) But what if the intended print use is newsprint or a glossy magazine page? What output sharpening settings should be selected?

Are there other output sharpening options available of which I am ignorant?

Welcome Jim, I don't sharpen at output for a Fuji laser but have no experience with magazines. Newspapers I deal with sharpen in PS and my exports from LR with matte sharpening standard show up well on newsprint.
This is still a newish field so experimentation is the key.

Output for offset printing such as magazines is a CMYK process. Lightroom does not officially support CMYK.

OK, but we still submit rgb jpeg or tiff files to them; sRGB is what I've always submitted. What do you recommend for sharpening if the intended output is newsprint or glossy paper stock? I start with raw files, conversions of which look pretty soft without some sharpening applied. Not what I'd like an editor to see!

In that case it sounds like you're submitting proofs for view on screen, so I would sharpen
them for screen or to my liking.
