Out of Memory Message

Every now and again I get a grey screen with a red "Out of Memory" message this can either be on the thumbnails or on the enlarged version of the image. My images (14',''') are stored on USB 2 external hard drives any ideas.
I run Vista, 4gig RAM, Quad Core 2.2.
Any ideas?

Wow, I haven't heard of a OOM since 1.1!

I got two at once yesterday just before upgrading to 1.4 But I put it down to my me because I'd just put in a caption without clicking in the caption box first! Every keyboard command imaginable, and a few that Adobe may not know about yet, came into play! So I rebooted and all was well. Nothing lost, no harm done. Just egg on face.

Man, I know how you feel, I've done similar things with keywords and such. You get lost in a hurry, and then it's hard to get back to zero.
