Organize for sets of Web Galleries

I have a ton of albums in an online gallery of have maintained using Gallery2 (open source). I am thinking of using LR with all the vairous gallery plugins available to now maintain a whole website of albums.

Maybe a dumb question, but once you create an album and export it from LR, is it just "gone"?

Let's say three weeks later, I decide to delete 3 photos and add 5 new ones. I can keep the images in a Collection (is that the best way?), but to recreate the same album, I have to re-type the album name and all the details to re-create that album.

Do i have that right?

I guess come from a full feature album program, I am used to being able to create, edit, move sub-albums within my gallery, so this would be a different paradigm.

Does anyone else share this outlook / potential transition?

If the images are in a collection, your web gallery settings should be saved in that collection too. So you could just keep a collection for each of your galleries.

Really?? I had no idea -- that is not at all intuitive to me, but I am glad it is there!

I think I will prefix all of my Web intended collections as "Web-yy/mm-Description" so they are in order.

I am looking forward to smart collections -- I use something similar in a media program called Media Center from J. River. I hope adobe does well with them in v2.

EDIT: or maybe use nested collections all under one umbrella collection

It's clearer in version 2, where web collections have their own special icon too. I'd use nested collections / collection sets personally.

I wrote an article on managing lightroom galleries on the web that addresses the issue of adding and removing images as well as updating the look and feel.

The article shows you how to setup the gallery the first time and then editing is a breeze.

Follow up question...

So if I do a first Gallery out of a Collection and enter all of the parameters of my website and FTP and so forth.

When I do a second Gallery, i have to RE-ENTER all of that information. Is there any way to keep that information or keep Presets or something?

Am I missing a basic functionality here? That seems like a lot of work each time.
