Opening Psd with Layers

I am new to LR, but if I open a LR file and edit in Photoshop. Save the PSD file and then go back to open that file within LR, the photoshop layers are gone. I just get the flattend file. I sometimes need to go back to my layered file and work some more.

I can right click and show in Explorer and then open the file with Photoshop and I get my layerd file. Is this the only solution?

I am on Win 7 with LR 2.3 and CS4.

Hi Rene, welcome to the forum!

Do you get a dialog that says 'open original' or 'open a copy with Lightroom adjustments' etc? If so, go with Open Original and that should do the trick.

Thanks! I will give that a try. Hope it will keep my LR adjustments. Guess that is why I thought that was not the correct choice.

They'll still be there when you next look at the image in LR, ready to apply when you're ready to export to a flattened file. It just can't apply them to layers, that's all.

Victoria, I tried your solution and it worked. I kind of think I understand the process and why that is the correct choice when opening to edit.--Rene
